Back in 1992, Barry
Emms was having trouble locating a good working Vacuum Advance
unit for one of his British cars and decided to try and repair the faulty unit
himself. After building some special tooling, he managed to open, replace the
Diaphragm and seal the Vacuum Advancer up again. After showing his handiwork to several
people in the car repair business, he could see that there was a ready market
for rebuilt Vacuum Advancers, especially for Japanese vehicles, which were being
imported in large numbers. Better tooling and machines were developed and Barry
started working full time, supplying reconditioned Vacuum Advance Units to
vehicle repairers throughout New Zealand.
Gradually, as experience in this
highly specialized field was gained, a wider range of vacuum operated devices were repaired.

Customers began to ask for Distributors to be repaired and as
knowledge and experience in this area increased, a
larger variety of Distributors were rebuilt. Barry also
noted that there was a demand for the supply of fuel pump
diaphragms in cases where car restorers were unable to source
repair kits and gradually this grew and now, complete fuel and
vacuum pump overhauls are undertaken, combining repair of
existing components with new parts such as Lucas rotors.
Quality Rebuilds Ltd today, is New Zealand's leading repairer of a wide range of
Sealed Actuators, Distributors and Mechanical Fuel Pumps. An excellent
reputation for detailed, accurate repair and restoration work has been
established within the motor trade and also with restorers and enthusiasts
repairing their own vehicles. Should you have a problem & think that we can
